The federal government announced the appointment of Shah Khawar as the acting chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday. Khawar, who previously served as the PCB election commissioner, is set to assume office tomorrow.
As part of his responsibilities, Khawar will unveil the governing board after consulting with stakeholders. Sources indicate that the elections for the permanent PCB chairman are scheduled to take place in the first week of February.
The move comes in the wake of the acceptance of Zaka Ashraf’s resignation as the PCB management committee chairman by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Tuesday. Ashraf had resigned from the post last Friday and also decided to step down as a member of the Board of Governors (BoG). It was reported that his resignation was prompted by the lack of authority from the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC).
These developments mark a significant transition in the leadership of the PCB, with Shah Khawar taking on the role of acting chief as the cricket board prepares for upcoming elections in February.
