The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) on Sunday addressed recent social media claims about a purported withdrawal of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a fundraising event in Karachi. The hospital stated unequivocally that this notification, dated December 2023 and related to a dinner planned for December 29th, had no bearing on current activities.
Reports circulating online suggested that Islamabad’s administration had withdrawn the NOC necessary for hosting the fundraiser for the under-construction SKMCH facility in Karachi. The hospital issued a formal clarification emphasizing that fundraising and construction operations were uninterrupted since then.
“We remain committed to our mission of fighting cancer,” the statement read, “and appreciate your continued support and trust as we continue our efforts.”
Earlier this year, SKMCH administration had announced that approximately 70% of their nuclear medicine facility in Karachi was completed with the remaining work on schedule. The existing facilities in Lahore and Peshawar already provide high-quality cancer care without regard to patients’ ability to pay, serving over thousands of deserving individuals daily.
The hospital’s focus remains unchanged as they prepare for the opening of the Karachi facility slated for December 2026.
