Nepali Sherpa Guide Sets New Record Scaling Mount Everest
56-year-old Kami Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Mount Everest, standing at 8,849 meters or 29,032 feet, on Sunday. He achieved this feat while guiding clients from the 14 Peaks Expedition company.
The Department of Tourism in Nepal congratulated Sherpa for his “historic milestone” and contributions to mountain tourism promotion.
Sherpa reached the peak at 10:12 a.m. local time (0427 GMT) on Sunday. A Sherpa woman, Lakhpa, also made her 11th ascent, surpassing all women climbers.
Born in Thame village of Solukhumbu district where Tenzing Norgay was born, Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 and has repeated the feat every year except in 2014, 2015, and 2020.
