In recent weeks, concerns have escalated over an alarming trend of unauthorized photography within girls’ government colleges across Sindh Province. This development has prompted stringent measures by the Sindh College Education Department (CED), with immediate repercussions for any entity found to have violated these protocols.

A significant directive issued by Karachi Directorate of College Education (DCE) underscores the seriousness and urgency surrounding this issue. The letter, dated February 9th and seen by Dawn, cites a formal advisory note from the CED special secretary, dated February 2nd, which explicitly prohibits unauthorized photography in all female colleges without explicit consent.

This prohibition extends to any dissemination of images on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, or other digital channels. The advisory emphasizes that these activities not only breach applicable laws but also contravene deeply ingrained religious and societal values.

The special secretary’s statement articulates the gravity of the situation: “Such acts constitute a clear violation of applicable laws and the religious and social values of society.” He further asserts, “Therefore, unauthorised photography in all female colleges without consent is strictly prohibited. Any violations will result not only in disciplinary action but also legal proceedings under relevant laws.”

The directive mandates that all government college principals ensure compliance with these rules or face severe consequences. The warning to the violating institutions includes a stern message: any principal found culpable, along with their staff, would be held accountable for such breaches.

This move reflects a concerted effort by educational authorities to uphold security and moral integrity within the province’s female education sector. It signals a commitment to maintaining the sanctity of these institutions, particularly those reserved exclusively for girls.
