Sindh Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Labour Day

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Thursday, May 1, in recognition of International Labour Day.

An official notification confirmed that all government and semi-government offices will remain closed. Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, will also suspend operations for the day.

Labour Day is observed globally to acknowledge the contributions of the workforce and to bring attention to labour rights. In Sindh, a series of rallies and public gatherings are expected, with Karachi likely to host the largest demonstrations.

Trade unions and workers’ associations plan to organise events calling for improved labour laws, enforcement of minimum wage regulations, and safer working environments.
