The Sindh government has introduced an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service, a first for Pakistan. This initiative also includes the launch of “Pink EV Taxis,” a dedicated service for women passengers.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed that the provincial Department of Transport will be deploying 200 electric taxis in Karachi, with 50 of them designated as Pink EV Taxis for women.

“These initiatives aim to improve public transportation and provide dedicated services for female passengers,” said Memon.

Memon added that the government will recruit female drivers for the Pink EV Taxis, enhancing safety and offering affordable transportation options for women.

This EV taxi service is part of the Sindh government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transportation within the province. It aligns with the federal government’s push to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.

The timeline for the full rollout of the EV taxi service, including the Pink EV Taxis, has not yet been disclosed by the Sindh government.
