The Sindh government announced on Sunday that cellular services will be suspended in all major cities of the province, including Karachi, today (Monday) in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
According to reports, the mobile services has already been suspended in most parts of Karachi.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar earlier stated that mobile services will be halted in key cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Khairpur as part of intensified security efforts.
In addition to Karachi and Hyderabad, districts like Dadu, Thatta, Sajawal, Khairpur, and Larkana are also experiencing service suspensions. However, cellular services continue to operate in Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Sukkur.
Security forces will remain on high alert, with aerial surveillance conducted over mourning processions to ensure law and order, according to Lanjar.
The provincial government also declared a holiday for all public and private schools across Sindh two days ago in observance of the Chehlum of Karbala martyrs.
As part of the security measures, a ban on pillion riding has been imposed across the province, including Karachi, to prevent any untoward incidents during the Chehlum.
