Sindh has become the first province in Pakistan to introduce the Sindh Senior Citizen Card, aimed at providing senior citizens with better access to healthcare, travel conveniences, and essential services. The initiative, launched by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with NADRA, is set to benefit 3.7 million citizens aged 60 and above.

At the official signing ceremony, Sindh’s Minister for Social Welfare, Mir Tarique Ali Khan Talpur, emphasized the importance of the program. “The Sindh Senior Citizen Card reflects our commitment to ensuring the dignity, respect, and well-being of our elderly population,” he stated. “Our senior citizens are the backbone of our history and culture, and this initiative ensures they can live their golden years with comfort and care.”

The program, previously referred to as the Azadi Card, has been rebranded to highlight its focus on enhancing the welfare of the elderly. Key officials present at the ceremony included Secretary Social Welfare Parwez Ahmed Seehar, Director General Social Welfare Athar Hussain Mirani, Director General NADRA Karachi Ehtesham Shahid, and Program Manager Junaid Shaukat.

The Sindh Senior Citizen Card will serve as an identification tool, enabling senior citizens to access medical services, reduced travel costs, and other civic amenities without unnecessary hurdles. Speaking at the event, Ehtesham Shahid of NADRA Karachi said, “We are proud to partner with the Sindh government on this transformative initiative that will significantly improve the quality of life for senior citizens.”

Minister Talpur reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to creating an inclusive society that values its elders. “This card is more than just an initiative—it is a promise to honor the contributions of our senior citizens,” he said, adding that the government is dedicated to launching further programs aimed at empowering vulnerable groups.

The Sindh Senior Citizen Card is a step forward in addressing the needs of the aging population, reflecting the province’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and compassion for its citizens
