Sindh targets global investors with mega construction initiative: Sharjeel

The Sindh government is advancing plans to invigorate economic activities through a mega construction project in Karachi, aimed at attracting foreign investors and overseas Pakistanis. This was announced by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, during the 18th Build Asia International Conference and Exhibition held at the Expo Center.

Sharjeel Memon highlighted that the project, centered on the construction sector, would create numerous job opportunities for skilled and educated workers across Sindh. He also shared the provincial government’s discussions with China to establish a bus assembly plant in the province. Additional plans include launching an electric vehicle (EV) cab scheme and importing 100 new buses to address the province’s immediate transportation needs.

Sharjeel Memon emphasized the collaborative efforts of the provincial and federal governments to provide a business-friendly environment and secure conditions for foreign investors, aiming to restore their confidence in Pakistan’s economic potential. Sindh has been actively engaging with high-level Chinese delegations, facilitating investment opportunities in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“We are working with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SFIC) to attract local and international investments to Karachi. The city remains a prime destination for business,” the minister stated.

He also commended the introduction of simplified visa policies for foreigners, advocating for further reforms to make Pakistan a more livable and investment-friendly destination. The government’s proactive approach includes hosting trade fairs that draw foreign delegates and stimulate economic activity.

The 18th Build Asia Exhibition reflects the Sindh government’s vision of fostering innovation and sustainability in the construction sector. Farhan Anis, Vice President of Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan, noted the rapid adoption of advanced technologies in construction to enhance living and working standards.

The three-day flagship event features cutting-edge trends, technologies, and sustainable solutions in construction, drawing exhibitors from 10 countries. Over 35,000 visitors from 42 allied sectors, including aluminum, brick, cement, and steel, are expected to attend. Seminars on real estate investment, financing trends, and emerging technologies in tourism, hospitality, and real estate have also been organized.
