Professor Azhar Shah, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sindh’s Dadu campus, has been placed under immediate suspension by the provincial government after controversial videos emerged on social media. The University and Boards Department issued an official notification on February 10 directing the vice-chancellor to investigate allegations of intoxication, inappropriate language usage, and disturbances during working hours.

According to these reports, Azhar Shah was seen in distressing states while on duty at the university. His actions have sparked outrage among students and faculty alike, leading to a formal inquiry by the University Administration under the Sindh University Act and relevant service rules. The investigation must be completed within 15 days, with recommendations submitted for further action by the Universities and Boards Minister.

Sindh’s Universities and Boards Minister, Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, confirmed the suspension, emphasizing that all actions would strictly adhere to legal proceedings following receipt of the inquiry report. The videos in question, which were widely disseminated online, depict Azhar Shah in an intoxicated state during working hours. This incident has raised significant concerns about academic integrity and campus safety.

Rahoo’s comments have reignited discussions on how universities should balance freedom of expression with maintaining professional standards among their staff. As this matter unfolds, the University Administration is under immense pressure to address these allegations promptly and thoroughly.
