The latest Sony PlayStation State of Play event delivered a packed lineup of new titles, remakes, and surprise releases for the PlayStation 5, signaling a major year ahead for Sony’s console. On February 12, 2026, during an hour-long livestream, Sony showcased announcements from both first-party and third-party studios.

Unlike previous events, fans were left disappointed when Marvel’s Wolverine did not make an appearance. However, the event justified its length with a broad spectrum of news, culminating in a significant moment at the end. Sony Santa Monica revealed two new God of War projects during the broadcast—God of War: Sons of Sparta and the full remake of the original trilogy.

God of War: Sons of Sparta is a 2D side-scrolling prequel focusing on Kratos’s Spartan heritage, featuring a pixel art style and action gameplay that offers fans something fresh. The game launches immediately after the broadcast. IGN reports this new direction for the franchise could redefine expectations.

Meanwhile, Sony has also confirmed a full remake of the original God of War trilogy, scheduled for release on August 6, 2026, offering players an opportunity to revisit iconic moments with modern refinements.

Konami’s return was equally anticipated, with Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse set to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary in 2026. The game promises a new take on the legendary vampire hunter Dracula.

Highlighting the event were also notable announcements from other studios. The Verge highlighted Metal Gear Solid HD Collection 2, featuring Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker, set to be released on August 27, 2026, for modern platforms. This collection brings together some of gaming’s most beloved titles with new visual polish.

These announcements underscore a robust slate of content coming soon, demonstrating Sony’s commitment to keeping the PlayStation 5 vibrant and relevant in an ever-evolving market. The State of Play event served as more than just a glimpse into what’s next for these franchises; it was a preview of Sony’s ambitious plans for the year ahead.
