SSGC Announces 24-Hour Gas Supply Shutdown for Half of Karachi on Sunday

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a 24-hour shutdown of gas supply to nearly half of Karachi, starting Sunday morning. This temporary suspension is necessary for the installation of a new pipeline in the western region of the city.

According to a statement released on Friday, the gas utility will be undertaking hook-ups of a 24″ diameter, 31-kilometer pipeline stretching from SMS ACPL to DMS Surjani in Karachi. “To carry out this vital task, gas will be temporarily shut down from Sunday (July 28, 2024, 5 am) till Monday (July 29, 2024, 5 am),” the statement read.

The planned shutdown will impact several areas in the western region, including Surjani Town (all sectors), North Karachi (all sectors), Manghopir Town, Qasba Town, Orangi Town (all sectors), North Nazimabad (all blocks), FB Area (all blocks), Gulberg (all blocks), Buffer Zone, SITE Industrial Area, Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, and Mauripur.

Additionally, the development work may affect gas supply in the central region of the city, covering areas like Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad, Janjar Goth, and SITE Super Highway, according to the statement.

SSGC has invested Rs3.86 billion in laying down the dedicated pipeline, aiming to supply gas at the required high pressure to industrial zones while continuing to provide low-pressure fuel to residential and commercial areas in the region. “The project will segregate the low-pressure domestic and commercial consumers from high-pressure industrial consumers of SITE and Hub Industrial Areas,” the company stated.
