The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is considering a temporary suspension of gas supply to industrial consumers on Saturday in an effort to ease shortages faced by domestic users, officials said on Wednesday.
The utility reported signs of improvement in Karachi’s gas supply situation following the restoration of approximately 25 to 30 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas from local production wells.
The possible suspension comes amid continued gas shortages across the city over recent days, which have caused inconvenience for households, particularly during peak winter demand.
Officials noted that seasonal gas shortfalls have become a recurring issue due to increased domestic consumption for heating and cooking purposes during colder months. Earlier this month, the federal government had announced a decision to keep gas tariffs unchanged for the next six months, providing relief to consumers despite ongoing supply constraints.
