Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has made a significant breakthrough in Karachi, uncovering a widespread gas theft operation and recovering stolen gas valued at more than Rs 156 million. The operation, spanning areas like Liaquatabad, Korangi, and Mehran Town, revealed illegal siphoning of gas totaling Rs 150.65 million, according to an SSGCL spokesperson.
The perpetrators were found to be tapping into SSGCL’s service lines, diverting approximately 5.073 million cubic meters of gas unlawfully. In response, SSGC’s anti-theft teams disconnected a total of 5,216 illegal connections in the targeted zones.
During the raids, enforcement units seized various equipment and materials utilized in the gas theft operations, including pipes and other tools. The spokesperson emphasized that punitive actions would be taken against those responsible, proportionate to the amount of gas stolen.
