Syria’s Sharaa Set for G7 Summit in France Amidst Financial Talks

Syrian Finance Minister Yisr Barnieh received an invitation to the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, southeastern France. The summit takes place from June 15-17.

The invitation was personally delivered by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, marking Syria’s first participation in a G7 summit since its inception in 1975.

A source familiar with the matter stated that Syria’s involvement would likely focus on its potential role as a strategic hub for supply chains following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to ongoing conflict.

The strait has been largely shut down since the Iran war began at the end of February, causing significant disruption to global shipping and economies.
