Timothée Chalamet was greeted like a rock star at the Paris premiere of Marty Supreme at Le Grand Rex on February 3, 2026, as he donned a brown Givenchy suit and wore sunglasses. Addressing the audience from the stage, Chalamet joked about high ticket prices, saying, “I know you were charged a lot. It has nothing to do with me! I’m not getting any money from it; I would have liked for it to be free,” in reference to the €50 ($60) reserved seats sold for the event.

The A24 film marked another career milestone for Chalamet, who had already won his first Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for his performance as hustling table tennis champ Marty Reisman. During his remarks, he praised France’s rich cinephile culture, speaking French to the audience alongside director Josh Safdie and co-producer Ron Bronstein. “There is a big cinema culture in France,” Chalamet said, “even if the film is successful in the United States, it’s still considered a miracle movie.”

Safdie, who was nominated for Best Director at the Oscars, emphasized that the role of Marty Reisman was specifically written for Chalamet. He recalled meeting Chalamet in his early 20s and being impressed by the actor’s vision and determination. “I met Timmy Supreme,” Safdie said, “He could see the world, he could see the arts, but he was so far away. He needed to be at the center.”

Marty Supreme will release in France on February 18 through Metropolitan FilmExport. The premiere highlighted both Chalamet’s growing international appeal and French audiences’ enthusiasm for high-quality cinema, cementing his reputation as a global star.

Fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating the film’s wider release, with Chalamet’s performance expected to continue generating award buzz. Safdie and co-writer Bronstein began developing the film in 2018 after Safdie was gifted Marty Reisman’s 1974 memoir, The Money Player: The Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Champion and Hustler.

The role was notably written for Chalamet. Production on the film was led by cinematographer Darius Khondji, with Daniel Lopatin composing its score. Production design was handled by Jack Fisk. Marty Supreme premiered as a “secret screening” at the 2025 New York Film Festival and later received widespread acclaim in U.S. theaters following A24’s December 25 theatrical release.

The film garnered critical acclaim, earning nine nominations at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Safdie), and Best Actor (Chalamet). It also received eleven nominations at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Safdie), and Best Actor (Chalamet).

Additionally, Chalamet won a Golden Globe Award and Critics’ Choice Award for his performance. The film has grossed $124 million worldwide, making it A24’s third-highest-grossing film to date.
