Washington, D.C. — President Trump announced on Thursday that he has delayed signing an executive order concerning artificial intelligence (AI), citing a desire to maintain the U.S.’s competitive edge in AI development.

The president was scheduled to sign the order later in the afternoon but postponed it after expressing concerns about certain aspects of the draft. He stated, “I think it gets in the way of us leading China and everyone else.”

Trump emphasized that AI is creating numerous jobs in the U.S., yet he felt some provisions could potentially hinder progress. The specifics of these provisions remain unclear.

Margaret Brennan and Emma Nicholson contributed to this report.
