President Trump recently stated during a phone interview with CBS News that the United States’ conflict with Iran might be coming to an end. In his remarks from Doral, Florida, he emphasized how near victory seems: “I think the war is very complete and pretty much over,” Mr. Trump said. “They have no navy, no communications, they lack any air force. Their missiles are depleted; their drones are being destroyed all around them, including in manufacturing.”
The U.S. military announced striking more than 3000 Iranian targets within the first week of combat.
Mr. Trump added: “If you look at it objectively, they have nothing left. There’s absolutely nothing left militarily speaking.”
Late Sunday, Iran named Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader in place of his father. To this announcement, Mr. Trump responded with silence, saying, “I have no message for him and I don’t have anyone else to lead the country.”
Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has almost entirely ceased, accounting for nearly 20% of global oil supply.
Commenting on this matter, Mr. Trump threatened Iran if it obstructs shipping routes: “They’ve shot everything they can shoot, and they shouldn’t even think about trying anything cute or it would be their end.”
“The strait is open now,” he said, though he added that the U.S. was considering taking control of it.
The President had initially estimated the war might last just a month but declared on Monday: “We’re very far ahead of schedule,” emphasizing that they were “very complete, pretty much.”
On the same day, Mr. Trump tweeted, “No mercy” and posted, “Only Just Begun to Fight.” The U.S. Department of Defense followed suit, reflecting similar sentiments.
Since its onset, seven Americans have lost their lives in combat. That evening, Vice President JD Vance will preside over a dignified ceremony for the remains of U.S. Army Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, who perished during a March 1 attack at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
When asked about whether this conflict could end soon, Mr. Trump responded with confidence: “Wrapping up is all in my mind,” he declared, adding that no one else would be thinking along those lines.
So far, the U.S.-Iran war has seen seven Americans die on the battlefield. The President’s latest declarations underscore his determination and belief that this conflict could soon conclude.
