US-UK Tensions Rise Amid Iran Conflict
President Donald Trump has threatened to scrap his trade deal with Britain over the ongoing conflict in Iran. The US president stated this during an interview on Wednesday.
Trump also criticized Chancellor Rachel Reeves for her lack of a clear exit plan from the war, which he said is contributing to the high cost of living globally.
The UK and US reached a landmark trade agreement in May 2025, cutting some import taxes on cars, aluminium, and steel. Britain secured a 10 percent baseline tariff rate, undercutting the 15 percent imposed on EU goods.
Relations between Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have also deteriorated due to Starmer’s reluctance to involve Britain in Middle Eastern conflicts. Trump has frequently criticized Starmer for not allowing US air bases in the region or sending ships for a Strait of Hormuz blockade.
Despite these tensions, Trump clarified that they will not affect the upcoming royal state visit.
