In its third day, the main opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) continues to hold a sit-in at Parliament House in Islamabad. The move is in response to concerns over PTI founder Imran Khan’s deteriorating health. On February 12th, the Supreme Court was informed that Khan’s right eye has only 15 percent vision remaining. Despite government officials hinting on Saturday that Khan would be shifted to a hospital of his choice soon, no such shift had occurred by Sunday morning.
As visuals shared by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and other TTAP leaders show them at Parliament House, the group remains undeterred from its demands, which include changing doctors in the medical board. They have offered some flexibility by adding more names of preferred doctors but are finding themselves caught between calls for a sit-in halt and continued pressure on their conditions.
Last night, they were informed that Imran Khan would be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad; however, a demand was made that his personal choice of doctors change. This situation has led to further confusion as the TTAP continues its protest without any sign of resolution or hospital transfer. Government officials indicate the issue cannot be resolved immediately due to several members being abroad for parliamentary functions.
Senator Faisal Javed, one of the TTAP leaders, told Dawn that they intend to continue their sit-in until all demands are met and conditions improved. He expressed concerns over leaders at risk of fainting if breakfast deliveries were not allowed inside Parliament House. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has also voiced grave concern about Khan’s condition, urging immediate medical attention for any detainee, including those affiliated with the PTI.
The HRCP emphasized that denying or delaying adequate healthcare violates legal and constitutional standards in Pakistan, as well as international human rights obligations. It remains unclear when Khan might be transferred to a hospital of his choice amid ongoing tensions between the opposition and government officials.
