Pakistani and Turkish military leaders meet at GHQ
General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, Chief of the Turkish General Staff, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, at the General Headquarters on Thursday, according to Inter-Services Public Relations.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, General Bayraktaroglu was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistani Armed Forces. This marked the formal commencement of high-level military engagement between the two nations.
The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including the prevailing regional and global security environment. Both sides also reviewed prospects for strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, reflecting the depth of strategic engagement between Pakistan and Turkey.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Turkey, noting it is rooted in shared history, mutual trust, and strong people-to-people ties. He acknowledged continued support from the Turkish Armed Forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening military-to-military relations with Turkey.
The meeting underscored the value of sustained engagement in advancing defence cooperation, particularly in areas contributing to operational readiness and institutional capacity. The importance of close defense ties was also emphasized as a key pillar of their broader bilateral relationship.
General Bayraktaroglu conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception and commended the professionalism of the Pakistani Armed Forces. He reiterated Turkey’s resolve to deepen defence cooperation with Pakistan, including collaboration in training, joint exercises, and capacity-building initiatives.
The GHQ meeting comes amid continued interaction between Pakistan and Turkey across multiple domains, with defence and security cooperation remaining a central element of their strategic partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, stability, and security, reflecting a convergence of interests in addressing contemporary security challenges.
