The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador Hammad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi recently highlighted significant progress between Pakistan and the UAE towards finalizing a crucial economic partnership. Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Ambassador Al-Zaabi unveiled that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is now in its final stages of signing.
He explained that current bilateral trade volumes of around $8-10 billion did not adequately reflect the robustness of Pakistan-UAE relations and aimed to double these figures swiftly. The ambassador emphasized his government’s commitment to fostering a more dynamic economic landscape, noting that nearly 99% of UAE governmental services were now accessible online.
In a forward-thinking perspective, Ambassador Al-Zaabi underscored the growing digital economy in the UAE, where visa processing was being streamlined through digital systems with keen attention to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan. He announced ongoing discussions with the Punjab Skilled Labour Authority to enhance workforce mobility and further streamline processes by leveraging technology.
The envoy also highlighted that investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, ports, aviation, agriculture, minerals, and railways were on the agenda for the UAE, indicating their strategic expansion into Pakistan’s economic ecosystem. Ambassador Al-Zaabi expressed his personal involvement in ensuring all signed agreements are fully implemented, underscoring the importance of this partnership to both countries’ future growth prospects.
This comprehensive approach aims not only to boost trade but also to dismantle barriers within the business environment, marking a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral ties.
