UK Stricter Rules for Dual Citizens Entering from 2026

LONDON (Dunya News) – The United Kingdom introduced stringent new laws effective February 25, 2026, restricting dual citizens from entering the country. Under these rules, all travelers must present either a valid British passport or obtain a Certificate of Entitlement priced at £589.

The Home Office claims this measure aims to bolster security and simplify border procedures through the Digital Border System. However, concerns are mounting among families and European residents who see the stringent requirements as both costly and unjustifiably harsh.

Many critics argue that requiring non-British passport holders to pay £589 for a Certificate of Entitlement is excessively burdensome, especially considering how quickly these regulations came into effect. The organization “The Three Million,” which fights for the rights of European citizens, has called on officials to offer more affordable and accessible alternatives.

Consequently, UK dual nationals have been grappling with heightened administrative hurdles that affect their day-to-day travel plans. Families are particularly affected by this sudden shift in policy, as parents must coordinate multiple passports for frequent trips and ensure their children’s eligibility under the Digital Border System.

The introduction of these stringent regulations has led to widespread debate about how they impact both security and citizen convenience. Advocates argue that a more balanced approach is needed—one that balances national security with practical concerns for travelers who are already law-abiding citizens but now face added bureaucratic challenges.

As the UK continues to navigate this new landscape, it remains unclear if these measures will be widely accepted by its dual-citizen population or whether they will necessitate further adjustments in policy.
