In Islamabad, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi convened a significant meeting with an UN delegation to address critical issues within Pakistan’s justice system. The gathering aimed at discussing reform priorities designed to fortify the country’s judiciary.
During the meeting, participants engaged in detailed discussions on how to enhance access to justice and bolster judicial efficiency.
Chief Justice Afridi briefed the UN Resident Coordinator Mohammed Yahya and a representative team from various United Nations entities including UNDP, UN Women, UNICEF, UNODC, and UNFPA. He underscored his commitment to establishing a more user-friendly, inclusive, and effective judicial system that caters directly to citizens.
The Chief Justice highlighted the interconnectedness of the justice system with governance and accountability, emphasizing that a robust judiciary is pivotal for fostering sustainable development and democratic governance.
He also acknowledged the invaluable support provided by UN agencies in Pakistan’s efforts towards enhancing legal systems.
