The US is pushing for expanded energy exports to India as part of efforts to strengthen trade ties and mitigate supply concerns related to the Iran conflict. This move precedes a planned visit by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India.
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, told Bloomberg News in an interview that New Delhi has been increasingly open to diversifying its energy imports amid global supply chain disruptions due to Middle East instability and the ongoing blockade around the Strait of Hormuz.
Gor stated that “India has been receptive to diversification, and what that means is buying more American energy.” He added that “People have been very receptive to buying from the United States, and we’ve been very happy with that.”
The US aims to increase overseas demand for its oil and gas exports in response to global market disruptions caused by the Iran war. Shipping concerns have raised fears of tighter global energy supplies and higher fuel prices.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s upcoming visit is anticipated to focus on trade, regional security, and energy cooperation between the two nations.
