On Friday, a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a mosque in Tarlai, Islamabad, killing at least 31 worshippers and injuring more than 169, according to police sources. The attacker was identified as a foreign national affiliated with militant group Fitna al-Khwarij and had been stopped by security personnel before the attack.

Authorities declared that the incident bore no relation to Islam and condemned the targeting of innocent worshippers. Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the fatalities, with the former calling it a crime against humanity and standing with the affected families. He instructed authorities to provide all necessary medical facilities for the injured.

He also ordered that no one be allowed to foster unrest or spread mischief within the country. The prime minister sought a report from local administration and ensured that the injured received the best medical care possible.

In response, Britain condemned the attack at a mosque during Friday prayers and expressed sympathy for its victims through British High Commissioner Jane Marriott. She stated her sadness over “the horrific terrorist act” and pledged support to Pakistan. Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam also denounced the assault, stating that dozens had been martyred or injured. He affirmed Iran’s solidarity with both the Pakistani government and bereaved families.
