WhatsApp Introduces Paid Partnership Label
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature allowing channel admins on Android and iOS to label sponsored updates with an official paid partnership tag. This update is currently available in limited app versions, as reported by WABetaInfo.
The process involves tapping and holding any update to open the context menu where users can select “Add paid partnership.” Once applied, this visible label appears across all platforms for viewers without requiring additional steps.
Once a paid partnership tag is added, it cannot be removed or switched off. The only way to eliminate the tag is by deleting the update and reposting it without the disclosure. This move comes amid growing concerns over undisclosed deals between creators and brands on the platform, especially in regions where such disclosures are mandatory like the US and EU.
The Digital Services Act also mandates platforms to provide options for creators to disclose these arrangements, ensuring transparency remains a priority within the digital ecosystem.
