In Islamabad, several women’s rights activists, including members of Aurat March, were detained by police ahead of a planned rally on International Women’s Day. According to Dawn Police sources, the activists had been gathered in Sector F-6 for what was to be a peaceful protest march.

Aurat March shared a video on their official Instagram account, revealing women, including Dr Farzana Bari, being held inside a police vehicle. Police confirmed that Bari was among those detained. The arrests stemmed from Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which prohibits gatherings larger than four people for a limited period in Islamabad due to the imposition of this legal provision.

The group’s leaders criticized the decision, noting that family members and lawyers attempting to visit detainees were not allowed access. In an additional video shared by Aurat March, they claimed police had also detained other supporters gathered outside the police station. The group organized a press conference at the National Press Club on Saturday, condemning the region’s regional situation and highlighting their demand for the repeal of controversial laws such as the Hudood Ordinance.

This year’s theme in Islamabad was “Feminist Constitution.” They emphasized that efforts were being made to impose war against Iran under the pretext of women, driven by imperial ambitions and economic interests. The Aurat March leadership has urged authorities to uphold these demands and reforms. As this situation continues to develop, they seek prompt and accurate reporting from reliable sources.
