World Bank Delegation Visits Taxila’s UNESCO Sites, Expresses Interest in Preservation Measures

A delegation led by World Bank Vice President Mamta Murthi visited the historic Taxila Museum and several renowned archaeological sites on Sunday. The group was warmly received at the museum by Deputy Director SRO Taxila Muhammad Aasim Dogar and Senior Archaeologist Dr Arslan.

Officials briefed the guests on the museum’s extensive collection of Gandharan artifacts, Buddhist relics and the historical importance of Taxila as one of the world’s oldest centers of learning and civilization. Members of the delegation toured various museum galleries and reviewed ongoing conservation and preservation efforts aimed at protecting the region’s invaluable archaeological assets for future generations.

The visitors expressed keen interest in the historical exhibits and the measures being taken to safeguard the heritage sites. As part of the visit, the delegation also explored the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Sirkap and Dharmarajika, where officials briefed them on the historical, cultural and architectural significance of these ancient settlements, which stand as enduring symbols of the Gandharan civilization and the region’s Buddhist heritage.

The visit underscored the importance of preserving Pakistan’s cultural treasures and promoting its historical landmarks as part of the country’s rich and diverse civilizational legacy.
