Karachi’s judicial magistrate east directed TV host Yasir Shami on Thursday to provide his statement to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding his involvement in the online dissemination of indecent videos featuring late politician and anchorperson Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
Following the declaration of Shami as a suspect in the case, he voluntarily surrendered himself to the court. The objectionable video, allegedly depicting Liaquat in a state of complete undress at his residence, surfaced shortly after news emerged of his third marriage dissolution, raising considerable controversy.
Aamir Liaquat, a former MNA, passed away under mysterious circumstances in Karachi on June 9, 2022, and was laid to rest in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine the following day.
Last year, judicial proceedings saw the indictment of Dania Shah, Liaquat’s widow, in connection with the case, though she later obtained bail.
During Thursday’s court hearing, Dania Shah appeared before the magistrate alongside Shami. Shami, in turn, surrendered to the court and petitioned for bail, which was granted upon payment of Rs. 500,000 in surety bonds.
Previously, a warrant was issued for Shami’s arrest due to his non-appearance in court, prompting this latest legal development.
The case, lodged with the FIA Cybercrime Cell, continues to unfold, shedding light on the complexities surrounding the dissemination of sensitive content online.
