Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir, renowned for his involvement in high-profile cases, has submitted a leave application for the second time, citing mental stress and health concerns.
Judge Bashir, notable for sentencing PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Tosha Khana case, has expressed his inability to continue his duties due to hypertension attributed to the nature and pressure of his work. He has requested leave until his retirement in March.
Sources familiar with the situation revealed that this is the judge’s second leave application within a short span of 10 to 15 days. Last week, he had initially submitted a leave application but later withdrew it.
Judge Bashir has presided over several significant cases, including the ongoing 190 million pound reference against PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. His earlier involvement in the Tosha Khana case resulted in the sentencing of Imran Khan and his wife.
The judge’s health issues came to light previously during the Tosha Khana case proceedings at Adiala Jail, where he experienced a sudden spike in blood pressure, necessitating his removal for recovery.
Throughout his career, Judge Muhammad Bashir has overseen trials involving six Prime Ministers, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the judiciary. His courtroom has witnessed appearances by former Prime Ministers such as Nawaz Sharif, Yusuf Raza Gilani, and Raja.
