In a fresh turn for Hollywood’s esteemed awards season, the 32nd Actor Awards marked its inaugural streaming event under the new SAG-AFTRA banner. Hosted by Kristen Bell in Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall on March 1st, the ceremony celebrated leading actors in film and television while honoring its late icon Harrison Ford with a special Life Achievement Award.
Organizers unveiled the updated title to coincide with the longstanding name “The Actor,” thus signaling a fresh chapter for the show. This year’s event also featured tributes aimed at highlighting the achievements of outstanding performers.
Timothée Chalamet’s performance in “Marty Supreme” won him the Golden Acting Trophy, while Leonardo DiCaprio took home another award for his role in “One Battle After Another.” Ethan Hawke’s portrayal in “Blue Moon,” Jesse Plemons’ comedic delivery in “Bugonia,” and Kate Hudson’s heartfelt lead in “Song Sung Blue” also made their mark.
The show recognized Harrison Ford with the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, celebrating his unparalleled career spanning decades. Jessica Buckley received a special tribute for her portrayal of Hamnet in “Hamnet,” and Wunmi Mosaku was honored for her work in “Sinners,” among others.
As spectators tuned in from around the globe, they witnessed Sean Penn’s victory in “One Battle After Another” alongside other significant wins such as Benicio del Toro’s nomination. Jessa Murphy’s acting prowess in “Bugonia” and Paul Mescal’s role in “Hamnet,” along with Odessa A’zion’s standout performance in “Marty Supreme,” added more depth to the ceremony.
The night was also notable for its eclectic mix of performances, including an emotional portrayal from Ariana Grande in “Wicked: For Good,” Amy Madigan’s poignant delivery in “Weapons,” and Teyana Taylor’s humorously intense role in “One Battle After Another.” Each performance brought new layers to this year’s show.
On the awards front, Owen Cooper took home a Golden Acting Trophy for his role in “Adolescence,” with Jason Bateman’s nuanced portrayal of Black Rabbit following close behind.
