In a recent incident involving an online clash between content creators, actor Khaqan Shahnawaz has issued a public apology for his earlier mockery of Ali Abdullah. The controversy erupted during a Ramzan transmission on Express TV’s Piyara Ramzan program, where Shahnawaz criticized Abdullah’s comments about TikTok creator Jawad World.
Jawad World had parodied a perpetually annoyed diner at sehri (an evening meal in Ramadan), causing a stir with his humorous critique of someone else’s daily struggles. In response to the host Javeria Saud’s question on Abdullah’s commentary, Jawad suggested that “the paratha he was eating” – referring to day-old bread heated with water by his mother for him – didn’t improve his health nor his TikTok ranking.
Abdullah humorously noted, “Jawad is constantly going to experience special days [a euphemism for periods],” which elicited laughter from the host. Shahnawaz took offense at Abdullah’s accent and posted a video mocking it, stating, “When your own face is like a taftan, it doesn’t suit you to make fun of others in their struggles or appearance.” He added that social media often makes individuals overly sensitive.
Shahnawaz felt uncomfortable with Abdullah’s content but took issue with his specific accent. In response, he issued an apology and claimed the video had been taken down. However, many pointed out that Abdullah has a speech impediment which Shahnawaz initially overlooked, leading to further criticism of the actor’s conduct.
Sabeena Farooq, another actress on television, weighed in with her own perspective. She described Abdullah’s comedy as distinct and argued that Shahnawaz’s comments were “wrong on so many levels.” This response underscored the sensitivity surrounding such public exchanges and highlighted the complex nature of content creators interacting on live television.
