Actor Adam Sandler, known for his wide-ranging comedic roles, has opened up about his lesser-known passion: music. During a visit to the 2026 ASCAP Experience, where he served as a guest of honor and was awarded the Founders Award, Sandler revealed that despite his public image, his first love was actually music.

“In my career, I’ve played many different types of comedy roles,” said Sandler, “but it wasn’t always what made me happiest. Music is something that’s always brought me joy.” He added, “I started a band when I was 12 years old, and I’ve carried that love for music throughout the years.”

At the award ceremony, Sandler spoke about his daughters Sadie and Sunny, who are continuing his musical legacy. “Both of my daughters jam in the house all day long like I used to,” he remarked with a smile. “The other night, one of them was playing the piano while writing a song. It’s really impressive.”

“Sunny’s friends there all say she spends her time playing guitar,” Sandler shared. “I think that’s pretty cool. Music is truly the best thing in life.” He also recalled his early days as a student at New York University, where he used to make money by playing the guitar outside subway stations.

“It was always nerve-racking performing there,” Sandler said with a chuckle. “I would play ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’ on my guitar and sing it all the time.”

“I remember one particular night when I was feeling very nervous, but every time that song changed people’s moods — they just didn’t like how I sang it,” he added with a laugh.
