Heavy rain and floods have claimed at least 24 lives across Afghanistan over the past two days. In Baghlan province alone, 15 people were killed in flash floods within the last 24 hours. Farooq Akhplawak, a spokesman for the Baghlan governor, reported that 15 individuals lost their lives and dozens more were injured.

In Badakhshan, two deaths were confirmed, with another person missing and over 100 homes destroyed by the heavy rain. The disaster management authority reported six fatalities on Thursday due to stormy weather, which has been ongoing since late March, leading to floods and landslides that have damaged homes and crops.

The latest casualties follow at least 148 deaths and 137 injuries from flooding in April. Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries after decades of conflict, is particularly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions exacerbated by climate change.
