AJK President Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry Passes Away at 71, Leaving Significant Political Legacy Behind

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday due to prolonged illness. He served as the prime minister of AJK from 1996 to 2001, and was also the president of the Pakistan Peoples Party in AJK from 1991 to 2001.

Chaudhry’s death has caused grief among national and political circles. Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of PPP, expressed his condolences, describing Chaudhry’s contributions as “invaluable.” He said, “Barrister Sultan Mehmood played a key role in highlighting the Kashmir issue effectively on the international stage.”

Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also shared his sorrow. “Barrister Sultan Mehmood was wise, dignified, and principled,” he stated. “His services for AJK will always be remembered. His political struggle remains a guiding light for future generations.”

Chaudhry’s official Facebook page dismissed rumors about his health on January 10, stating that he had improved from before.
