The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has received its third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), recognising its consistent delivery of evidence-based, guideline-directed care to patients experiencing heart attacks.

The award is based on AKUH’s participation in the ACC Chest Pain-MI Registry, which enables hospitals to continuously measure their care against established clinical standards and identify opportunities for improvement. For patients, this means their care is guided by internationally recognised best practices and supported by a system that continuously reviews how care is delivered.

Participation in the registry allows AKUH’s clinical teams to use data to strengthen the quality and consistency of heart attack care. It supports a structured approach to treatment, from timely assessment and diagnosis through intervention and ongoing care, while helping teams identify areas where care can be further improved.

This third consecutive international recognition is a strong endorsement of our commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred cardiac care, said Dr Farhat Abbas T.I., S.I., CEO, AKU Health System, Pakistan. It reflects our teams’ dedication to delivering safe, high-quality care and continuously improving outcomes for our patients.

For a country facing a growing burden of cardiovascular disease, continuous measurement of care also provides an important opportunity to understand changing patterns of heart disease. This includes the growing concern around heart attacks among younger adults, highlighting the importance of recognising risk factors early and strengthening both prevention and treatment.

The registry allows us to continuously measure our care against established standards and identify opportunities to improve, said Dr Javed Majid Tai, Director, Cath Lab and Site Director, National Cardiovascular Data Registry at AKUH. This commitment to continuous learning helps us deliver more consistent care for patients experiencing heart attacks.
