Alexandra Grant has announced an upcoming comic series titled Nano, inspired by her severe COVID-19 experience.

The three-part sci-fi series was created in collaboration with Matt Kindt. Grant recounted how she fell ill for 16 days, hallucinating and unable to leave her room. She then revisited a novel from two decades ago, rewriting it during her fever dream stage.

Kindt, who had been working on Keanu Reeves’ project, offered to work with Grant through Dark Horse Comics after receiving her submission. The narrative was shaped by both authors, with the illustrator chosen as Brazilian artist Natasha Bustos.

Grant describes Nano as a clash between science and nature, blending technology, magic, and power themes. She aims for the character to be kick-ass, smart, and frustrated by patriarchy, while also exploring the conflict between nature’s power and toxic masculinity.

In her statement, Grant said Nano is a story of two worlds clashing: science and technology versus magic and nature. Kindt added that the series started as a fever dream, vivid and intricate, with big and wild ideas perfectly suited for comics.
