Apple, reportedly set to revolutionize wearable technology with a fresh generation of AI-infused devices, is currently developing groundbreaking wearables including AirPods with cameras and smart glasses. According to Bloomberg, Apple is taking the lead in visual intelligence by creating its own specialized AI models for these upcoming products.

The company’s Visual Intelligence system, originally introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro line set to debut in 2024, will be enhanced with new, proprietary AI capabilities. These improvements are part of a broader strategy aimed at integrating more sophisticated and context-aware technology into its devices, such as an innovative pendant designed for real-time environmental interpretation and response.

Dubbed similar to traditional pendants worn around the neck, the AI-powered wearable features multiple sensors and cameras. It will be capable of understanding what the user is observing in the environment and responding accordingly. For instance, it could highlight objects within a scene or provide relevant information based on context—like pointing out an item in a room or offering additional details about a location.

Meanwhile, the smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods are expected to leverage these internal visual AI models for real-time assistance functionalities. Currently, Visual Intelligence on Apple devices supports OpenAI’s ChatGPT, enabling multimodal responses that blend text and visuals.

Remarkably, Apple has also halted plans for an Apple Watch model featuring cameras, though the company is reportedly gearing up to introduce a suite of new AI-powered products soon. This development underscores Apple’s ambitious push into advanced wearable tech, positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation in this space.
