Asma Jahangir Group’s Mian Rauf Atta Wins SCBA Presidential Election

In the annual Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections, Mian Rauf Atta, the presidential candidate from the Asma Jahangir Group, secured victory with 580 votes. His opponent, Munir Kakar of the Hamid Khan Group, garnered 458 votes.

Polling for the SCBA elections took place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Islamabad registry, where 682 votes were cast from 769 registered voters, with only one rejected vote. Votes are still being counted in other registries across the country.

The election saw fierce competition between the Asma Jahangir and Hamid Khan groups. A total of 4,021 lawyers cast their votes nationwide to elect new SCBA office-bearers, including the president and secretary. The elections featured 17 candidates vying for eight positions.

Other notable candidates include Malik Zahid Aslam Awan and Chaudhry Tanveer Akhtar from the Asma Jahangir Group for secretary and finance secretary, respectively. From the Hamid Khan Group, Munir Ahmed Kakar contested for president, while Salman Siddiqui and Mir Aurangzeb vied for secretary and finance secretary positions.

In Punjab, a tight contest was held for the vice president slot, with candidates competing for additional vice-presidential positions in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.
