Bill Nye, renowned for his pop culture science education, will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 4th annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced this on Thursday in a press release.
The 70-year-old was scheduled to be honored with the award on March 1st at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. “Mr Nye is one of the most revered broadcast educators in television history, having instilled an appreciation for science in multiple generations of children,” said Adam Sharp, NATAS president and CEO.
Sharp added that it was an honor to celebrate Mr Nye’s career alongside other esteemed nominees building upon important children’s programming.
Nye is best known as the star of Bill Nye the Science Guy, which aired from 1993 to 1998. He also holds a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2025 for his contributions.
He hosted two Netflix series: Bill Nye Saves the World (three seasons) and The End is Nye (2022), which explored various scientific topics.
Nye’s career began as a comedian before branching into numerous areas, including education, invention, mechanical engineering, television hosting, and authorship of best-selling books. NATAS serves as a service organization dedicated to the advancement of arts and sciences in television and promoting creative leadership within the industry.
