BISE Lahore Implements Biometric Attendance for Matric Exam Centers

Punjab’s educational authorities are stepping up their efforts to combat impersonation during crucial matriculation examinations by introducing biometric attendance systems at high-risk examination centers. More than 6,000 students are being verified through these biometric measures ahead of the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, which commence from March 27.

Lahore Board spokesperson Tahir Javed emphasized that this initiative is a move to dismantle organized cheating networks known as “booti mafia,” where candidates can access solved answers or get impersonators during board examinations. The use of biometric verification in conjunction with CCTV cameras linked to online systems will ensure real-time monitoring and immediate action against any irregularities.

This examination process, involving nine provincial boards across Punjab, faces challenges due to the sheer number of students and exam centers. However, officials believe modern technology can significantly reduce cheating and enhance transparency. With directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, these measures aim to restore public confidence in the matriculation system and ensure that student achievements are accurately reflected.

While the implementation of biometric attendance is seen as a preventive measure, education experts acknowledge that complete elimination of cheating remains challenging given the large volume of candidates. However, officials believe this modern approach will make examinations more secure and fair for all participants.
