Britain’s second most senior diplomat in Washington, James Roscoe, has left his post, according to a statement from the UK foreign office on Wednesday. The reason for his departure remains unclear as no further details were provided by the government.
Roscoe was appointed deputy head of mission at the British embassy in Washington in July 2022. Prior to this role, he served as Chargé d’Affaires to the United States between September 2025 and February 2026, following Peter Mandelson’s dismissal over ties with Jeffrey Epstein. His successor is Christian Turner, who was appointed ambassador to the US in December and took up his position in February.
