Canada Introduces Bill to Combat Online Hate and Harmful Content

Canada’s liberal government unveils draft legislation, known as bill C-63, aimed at protecting citizens, especially children, from online hate and harmful content.

The proposed measures include stricter penalties for spreading hate, enhanced reporting requirements for child pornography, and the establishment of a digital safety regulator.

The move follows similar regulations in the EU and UK, while facing criticism for potential infringements on free speech from privacy groups and conservative opposition leaders.
