In an effort to enhance market competitiveness and inclusivity, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has partnered with the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). This collaboration is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at generating evidence-based recommendations that benefit both consumers and businesses.
The CCP’s Chairman, Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, underscored the importance of their partnership. “Through this agreement,” he said, “we aim to review legal and regulatory frameworks in tandem with market dynamics.” He highlighted the potential for producing high-quality research, reports, and data to support more effective policy solutions. Sidhu maintained that markets must not favor a few at the expense of consumers or businesses, stressing the need to eliminate monopolistic and oligopolistic practices.
Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri from SDPI echoed these sentiments. He emphasized how collaboration could provide robust analytical inputs to aid government decision-making. “Joint research” he stated, “will offer practical pathways for addressing sector-specific challenges and promoting policies that foster fair competition.”
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in areas such as research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. This initiative is designed to fortify competition policy in Pakistan, ensuring markets remain transparent, efficient, and equitable.
CCP’s Deputy Member, Salman Amin, and SDPI’s Deputy Executive Director, Dr Sajid Amin Javed, signed the agreement at a ceremony attended by senior officials from both institutions.

Their partnership will allow for joint reviews of legal and regulatory frameworks, aligning them with evolving market realities.
