CCP Holds Competition Law Awareness Session at LCCI

The (CCP) held a significant awareness session at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI). The event aimed to deepen understanding of competition law’s core areas, such as abuse of dominant position, prohibited agreements (cartelization), deceptive marketing practices, and mergers and acquisitions.

Chairman CCP, Farid Ahmad Tarar, led the CCP delegation, which included LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol and other senior management members. Tarar emphasized that distorted competition harms businesses and consumers alike, stressing the need for a culture of compliance within the business community.

Tarar also highlighted CCP’s efforts to modernize its enforcement framework, including automating complaint handling mechanisms and developing guidelines in emerging areas like e-commerce. He encouraged LCCI to establish a voluntary compliance regime and develop practical guidelines for members.

LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Saigol appreciated the CCP’s outreach efforts and emphasized the need for regular engagement sessions between the two entities. He proposed formalizing cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and noted that healthy competition is crucial for a vibrant economy.

Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh and Vice President Khurram Lodhi also spoke, suggesting regular advocacy sessions and the designation of focal persons to enhance coordination between CCP and LCCI. They emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation to promote fair market practices.

The session concluded with detailed presentations on key provisions of the Competition Act by senior CCP officials, including Director General Dr. Ikram ul Haq, Director and Secretary Marryum Pervaiz, and Director Maliha Quddus. The event ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, reflecting strong interest from participants and reinforcing the importance of continued dialogue between regulators and businesses.
