As Ramadan nears its end, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee readies for the crucial task of sighting the Shawwal crescent on Tuesday (April 9) in Islamabad.
Chaired by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee will convene at the Kohsar Complex to determine the moon sighting, heralding the joyous occasion of Eid ul Fitr.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs announces that Maulana Azad will preside over the meeting, joined by officials from various departments. Testimonies regarding the Shawwal moon sighting will be presented, with Maulana Azad announcing the decision based on these accounts.
If the moon is sighted on Tuesday, Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (April 10). Otherwise, Eid will be observed on Thursday. Zonal and district committees will also convene to facilitate the moon sighting process after Asr prayers.
The Meteorological Department predicts favorable conditions for moon sighting on April 9, with the crescent expected to be approximately 19 to 20 hours old by Maghrib prayer. The government has already announced public holidays for Eid ul Fitr, providing three or four days off depending on the workweek.
