CM Punjab Proposes ‘Special court martial’ as Anti-Corruption Measure for Punjab Police

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced plans for a “special court martial” during a high-level meeting in Murree, chaired by her.

The decision underscores a determined effort to enhance law and order in the province, with attendees including key officials and representatives from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Alongside the establishment of the special court martial, measures include the creation of a dedicated unit to combat organized and cybercrimes, with plans for IT and cyber investigations training. A “special audit system” will probe corruption cases within the police department, complementing efforts to address any links with criminal elements.

Additionally, CM Maryam revealed plans for a ‘special dashboard’ for public reporting of bribery incidents involving police officials, along with efforts to strengthen interprovincial border security and combat smuggling.

Proposals for a specialized police force targeting specific crimes, along with legislative measures like the death penalty for rape and child molestation, were discussed. Maryam emphasized the need to address the prevalent “gun culture” and pledged to equip the police with advanced technology.

Furthermore, she called for expedited trials for suspects involved in crimes against women and children.
