A trending hashtag, #نورین_رو_رہی_ہے (Noreen is crying), has captured the attention of Pakistani social media. The buzz started after journalist Hasan Ayub discussed PTI’s intra-party election on the ARY News show “The Reporters.”
The trend has, since then, accumulated at least 172,000 posts under the hashtag #نورین_رو_رہی_ہے on X, formerly Twitter.
During the discussion, Ayub highlighted the rise of newcomers within PTI, like Barrister Gohar, who joined in 2020 and became chairman. This shift seemed to have left long-time PTI member Noreen Farooq Khan disheartened.
Ayub shared Noreen’s sentiments, stating, “She is saying that she has spent all her life, from 1999 to 2024 in the PTI, but a man who joined the party in 2020 became the chairman. This is a wrong decision by Imran Khan sb.” He added that “Noreen is now crying“.
When asked about Noreen’s wishes, Ayub explained, “She wants the election to happen.”

Who is Noreen Farooq Khan?
The focal point of the trending #نورین_رو_رہی_ہے hashtag, Noreen Farooq Khan is a former secretary of PTI in Punjab, she reportedly switched to the Pakistan Muslim League-Q on March 12, 2023, under the leadership of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
A social media video featuring Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar announces Noreen’s move from PTI to PMLQ. This transition has led to questions from PTI supporters regarding her loyalty to Imran Khan and the party.

However, Noreen Farooq Khan contradicts these reports, asserting that she never left PTI and is still the information secretary of the PTI’s labour wing.
Noreen is part of a group challenging the recent intra-party election before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Earlier this month, she briefly addressed journalists outside the ECP, expressing her desire to participate in the election due to her long-standing association with the party and her various positions within it.
Amid the social media uproar with the #نورین_رو_رہی_ہے trend, Noreen Farooq Khan released a video statement. In which she refrained from condemning Hasan Ayub, stating that he presented her viewpoint on TV.
