Czech, Slovak Leaders Back Orban Ahead of Hungary Vote

Prime Minister Viktor Orban received strong backing from Czech and Slovak leaders ahead of Hungary’s parliamentary election. Both Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis praised Orban as a champion of national interests.

Opinion polls suggest Orban could lose in Sunday’s vote after 16 years in power, amid clashes with Brussels over EU law rules.

Fico, who has been in power since 2023, emphasized Hungary and Slovakia’s close ties to Russia and their opposition to European Union sanctions. Both countries have also faced criticism from the EU for these policies.
